Course Description

This course prepares students for employment with hands-on remote pilot skills and experience, aeronautical knowledge, and aviation safety practices. Students in this course will understand the capabilities and limitations of the technology including hardware and software associated with Unmanned Aircraft. They will understand the environment in which the UAS technology will be applied both in the physical and political environment. They will learn the capabilities and limitations of human remote pilots and using that understanding to become a responsible member of the aviation community. They will explore the concept of safety and the role of managing risk and organizational decision-making to improve unmanned aviation safety.

This course is designed to provide a foundation into Unmanned Aircraft Systems introducing students to unmanned aircraft systems philosophy, history of civil aviation, functions of UAS services, laws and regulations affecting UAS operations, and the role of technology in the development of this industry. Students will experience hands-on activities including flight simulation, sUAS piloting, mission planning, and creating usable work product for photography/cinematography purposes. Students will learn to follow procedures established through the aviation standard operating procedures and best practices.
